～Our policy～
Natural mint has played invaluable role in our lives over 2000 years all around the world there was a time when 70% of the world share of mint was produced in Kitami.
However liberalization of imports and the synthetic mint led to a decline in Kitami's flourishing industry, and in the 1980s the once world-renowned Kitami Mint Factory closed. It was during these grim times for Kitami mint, shortly after the closure of the factory, that Kitami Hakka Tsusho was born.
It has now been over a quarter of a century since we began telling the world that Kitami and its mint are still alive and sharing our region's heart and soul through our products. Our contracted growing area is now over 2 hectare (5.0 acres) and we are developing more and more products made from local ingredients. Most of our employees were born and raised right here in Kitami and have a great love for the area. And each and every one puts their heart and soul into everything they do for you.
Our dream is to revive this local resource and keep the Mint Kingdom of Kitami's glorious history alive. We are doing our utmost to help make Kitami a region like no other.
～About Mint～
Mint is a diverse herb that is grown around the world. A major characteristic is the cooling sensation produced by menthol, the most abundant component in the leaves. There are hundreds of different types of mint, each with different main components and amounts of menthol. These can be roughly divided into three categories.

～Uses of Mint～
Mint oil and menthol are used as natural additives in a wide variety of products that can be used in many different ways
- Fragrance in foods and beverages such as jelly, sweets, tea and liqueurs
- Relax by placing some mint oil in the room, in your car or on your pillow. Or add a few drops to your bath.
- Cool your muscles after sporting activities. The unique cooling agent eases tiredness.
- The cooling agent in mint overpowers insects and small animals. Apply mint oil to your clothing as a natural insect repellent during outdoor activities such as camping or mountaineering. It is also highly regarded by professional golfers.

A unique class of mint with carvone as its main component instead of menthol, spearmint is often used in cooking in various countries.

Peppermint Crystal 10g
A bottle of pure ℓ-menthol, the main component of mint oil. Mint oil accounts for only 1-2% of mint leaves, and menthol crystals account for only around half of this. It is mainly used as ingredients in medicinal or food products, as a natural additive in our mint candy.
